Aval looked out the window, scouting out how to cross the rooftops to the next building. Pressing her lips together in a thin like, her eyebrows drew together in a scowl as she spotted a guard walking down the street.
For the past few days, Aval had been looking for a friend, Brothel's little sister. When Brothel had been drawn out of the city, and into the slums, they had kept him from meeting up with his sister before he left. Being in the slums, he had continuously worried about her until Aval reached her limit of patience. "Look, I'll go get your sister, OK?" she growled, slamming her hand into the table. "Aval? real--?" he was cut off as she gave him a poisinous glare. "Yes. Really." Aval said in a much more dangerous voice. Stomping off, she pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance, and headed for the small apartment that had been her home for at least two years.
Aval now grumbled under her breath about how stupid Brothel was, whining like a lost mother. She stood up, and agilely leapt out the window to slide unto a lower level of the buildings she was hiding in. She had been caught by some guards a few days back, and recognizing her, they were in hot peruit within one minute. Landing on the floor of the apartment, she sighed and stood up to find a man in front of her, looking at her with wide eyes. "Oh, Shi--" she muttered instictively as she turned to dash for the window and stumbled, falling face-forward at his feet. Blinking, she looked up. Stealth wasn't exactly her best talent, and she gave a broad grin up at him, knowing that it would have been better to punch him in the face first if she had wanted to do anything right. Hopefully he wasnt with the royal palace.

Nomus had been quickly making his way through the apartments, using them as a way to get a few guards off of his trail. If his memory served him right the guards around these parts were a clumsy lot by and by. He took the gold-chained necklace out of his coat and looked over it for a bit, it was a beautiful piece. The centerpiece of the necklace was made of ivory and had a rather large ruby in the center, it caught the light quite well and was obviously of high quality. This would fetch a good price from his fence.
Just as he stuffed it back into his coat a young girl landed in front of him. In his surprise, he drew his black knife and almost attacked her. Just as soon as he reached his arm into his coat, she tried fleeing and ended up on the floor in front of him. He eyed her for a bit before stowing his weapon away from sight. Nomus felt bad for the girl and held out his hand to help her up, "You mind telling me who you are?" He said to her just as he heard the sounds of several guards approaching their position.
He turned around and cursed under his breath, I thought I had more time than that." Before taking out his knife and looking for an exit.

Aval took the help up, and gave him an even wider smile. Looking him up and down, she noticed he seemed to be slightly older than her, and she frowned, wondering what he was doing there until she spotted a golden chain dangling from one of his many pockets. ah. she thought inwardly, knowing this was his reason for being here. Then some guards were heard clambering through the hallway behind the door, and Aval let out a string of swears she had been taught from the elder men. Mimicking the man's actions, her eyes pried for a place to escape, and they landed on the window again. Grabbing his hand, she tugged him towards the window urgently, and looked out from the sill. They must have spotted her coming in from the upstairs floor. Scowling again, she looked at the clothesllines, and looked back to him, automatically treating him as an ally. For now. "We need to escape by the streetways, otherwise we're doomed." whispered to him, and began climbing down the windowsill to drop the the cobbly stone street below; instantly expecting him to follow.

Nomus looked down at her and muttered the words "I'd have chosen the rooftops but..." He trailed off just before vaulting through the windows as the guards broke through the door. His middle finger was the last thing they saw of him as he landed on the streets and rolled, skillfully, back onto his feet. He put the dagger away and began to quickly make his way down the street, looking for an escape route to his nearest safehouse.
He looked back at the girl and then poked his head around the corner into the empty alleyway, "Alright, I have a safehouse nearby we just have to get those armored buffoons off our trail first." He said to her before he ran down the alley, just as he got to the end, two more guards came around the corner with their swords drawn. They shouted something at him along the lines of stop where you are, but Nomus didn't take heed. He immediately began to run back down the alley from which he came. "Never mind we go this way!" he said to her as he ran by.

Aval ran after him after showing him that she barely knew were to go after leaping out of the window. As the group of guards came by, she followed him the other way. But as an afterthought, she said to herself, If we run into any more guards, I'm going to have to fight my way through. No way are we gonna be able to get away if we dont... and sadly, she found she was right a few seconds later. After the man and her had turned a corner, they ran into a new batch of guards, while clattering of their peruers clanged clearly behind them. She hissed slightly, and before she let herself turn to look and see what the stranger was doing, she leaped at the guards, who now wore a surprised look on their faces. Pulling her broadsword out in one deft movement, she swumg it down, hitting the man immediately in front of her with the hilt. A clanging rang in the silence that stretched, the call that the guards had been preparing for them to halt dying in their throats. Aval landed on the pavement and turning, found that there werer only a few guards--maybe six or seven--that had followed them. Then came the wave of anger, and she stumbled forward, dodging a blow that she had spotted comeing from behind at the last moment. Runnning towards the small bout of men, she skillfully slipped inbetween them, as the larger group came running after her. She knew that she would have to face on the guards faster, but there would be more confusion if they were trying to catch one person in a group of twenty. All this time, she had completly forgotten about the man that had lead her to this street in the first place. Of course, Aval didn't consider the fact that her hair, a bright pink beakon in the group of guards, would give her away.

One of the guards swung his sword horizontally at Nomus, but he bent backwards and skillfully dodged it as the blade swept above him. Nomus fell onto his back and rolled out of the way as another sword hit the ground where he had been. He quickly got onto his feet and dashed after the girl who had been following him, pushing a surprised guard to the ground. He slid into the crowd and threw a knife out from under his sleave and into a guard's neck, making it into the weak patch of armor. The guard, who had been about to clothesline the girl with his sword, fell to the ground with a pool of blood draining from the new hole in his neck.

Aval blinked as the man that had just been ready to attack her fell to the ground, bleed profusely. Trying to slide through the chaos of the small street and people attacking her, she swung her sword at someone's face, and heard a distinct crunching sound. Cringing at the sound, she ducked under another arm, and continued to hack her way through the guards. After around 15 minutes, she had reached the outside of the crowd, and sighed, running for an apartment to hide in only to find that over half of the guards still left (some that she did not remember defending herself from were laying on the floor, unconcious or dead) were following her into the building. She ran as fast as she could to the entry way, and climbed up the stairs two at a time. "This is ridiculous..." she murmured as she panted away, "they shouldnt be concentrating on just me--there must be some other..." she stopped in the middle of her sentence, as she reached the top of the building that she had been dashing up. She had reached a door that she prayed led to the roof and not some random broom closet. Trying to open the door with a commotion of clanging armor coming from not too far down the stairwell, Aval found it was locked ad swore under her breath, beginning to slam her who body (as small as it was) into the door to crash through. It slammed open as she stumbled through, and a gust of air caught her hair up in the wind to be blown away from her face. The noise of the guards was getting louder. A long clothesline from farther below caught her eye, and she ran. Collapsing to her knees, she heard guards entering the small door behind her and flood through. She looked back momentarily, and prayed to the gods that the thick wire would hold her, and jumped off the side of the ten story building.

Nomus saw the girl dash into a nearby apartment building and quickly followed suit. The guards had seen him and had made chase, crashing through the doorway in a clumsy flood of armor. Nomus nimbly rolled into the door and chased after the pink headed girl that had left the door to the roof open. He looked behind him and saw that the guards had managed to regroup and continue the chase.
Up the stairs he ran as fast as he could carry himself, the guards were close behind him. Just as he made it onto the roof he saw the girl leap off. For a second he was afraid that she had killed herself, but then he remembered what area they were in and that their were many clotheslines strewn about. "You've got to be kidding to me" he said to himself as he made it to the edge of the roof and looked over. The guards stopped briefly behind him to confront the thief, he took one last look over and gulped. "Well, its been fun but I do have to see somebody about this recently misplaced necklace." He said as he took it out of his pocket and twirled it around his finger. As soon as he caught it in his hand again there was a loud crack and a bright flash.
To the guards it appeared as though the thief had vanished into thin air but really he had tossed himself off of the building, landing several apartments below the roof. He grabbed onto a clothesline and swung himself into an open window, crashing into the kitchen as the family was sitting down to eat dinner. He stood up and dusted himself off before quickly making his way to the front door and letting himself out.

Aval had slipped to the alleyways below, and hoping that she could remember the streets properly, she swung herself into a doorway that hid her from view. If only i hadnt run into that stupid thief...' she thought, sighing in relief at the fact that she had escaped the guards. It wasn't that she had not dodged the looming chance of a noose around her throat for being wrongly accused, but that she knew it would have been easier for her to avoid guards at this moment. Aval knew that they most likely had not known who she was, but if they have the chance of describing her to anyone that did know who she was, the retrieval of Brothel's sister would be much, much harder. As the threat of capture faded, Aval closed her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose as she always did when she was frustrated, or was in deep thought. She stayed this way for a few moments, thinking that she would try to go to Brothel's sister's rondevous points once more in a chance that she would still stop by. Tomorrow she would try one that was less crowded with people, and stake out there for the week. This was tedious work, looking for someone when you have no clue were they were. A faint scuttling hinted that someone was coming, and Aval jumped up, snapping out of her less than hopeful plans.
